Gas Works Park

After work on a Monday, my friends and I decided to visit Gas Works Park. Known for its incredible view of the skyline of Seattle, it was actually only a couple of miles from my office. We raided our office for takeout dinner and headed out. Unfortunately, rush hour traffic made the trip take almost double of what it should have.

There were a lot of people, but because of how vast the park is, it didn't seem uncomfortable or crowded. Many people were running with dogs, reading books, or smoking. The stress of work was left behind on the other side of the lake.

The first thing that I noticed were the huge looming gas towers in the middle. They were ginormous — larger than I imagined from the pictures. In a sense, they gave the park a sense of scale, showing how spacious it is.

Once we got on top of the hill, the skyline came into view. The sun was setting, and you could see the reflections of the tall glass towers in the water. There were hundreds of sailboats and kayaks on the lake, enjoying the same view that we were. I imagined how amazing it would be to be in one of those boats at sunset. We ate our dinner as the sky got dark and the city lit up.
