Spain

Winter 2015

Day 9

Our final segment of our Spain travels was in Madrid, where we started off by touring the Royal Palace of Madrid. The palace is one of the largest and most beautiful in Europe, and we were impressed by the grandeur and opulence of the architecture and decorations.

After the palace, we went to the Plaza Mayor, where we saw many street performers and enjoyed the atmosphere of the Main Square. We also visited the Christmas Fair, which had rows of booths selling seasonal gifts and food. To end the day, we enjoyed some delicious Chocolateria San Gines, which is hot chocolate with churros.

Day 10

The next day, we took an audio tour at the Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum, where we learned about the history and significance of the art collection. We then went to the Museo Nacional del Prado, where we admired the impressive Goya collection. Our last stop for the day was the Retiro Park, where we rented row boats and enjoyed a leisurely boat ride on the lake.

Day 11

For our last day in Madrid, we went on a Sandeman Free Walking tour to learn more about the city and its history. The tour was fantastic and we saw many interesting sights and landmarks. Then we went to the Sorolla Museum, a small house museum where the artist Joaquin Sorolla once lived and worked. The museum offers a unique insight into the life and work of the artist, and it was a great way to end our trip to Madrid.
