San Francisco
Crissy Fields
In a small corner of San Francisco, there is a beautiful strip of beach called Crissy Fields. From here you can see the Golden Gate Bridge with the mountains of Marin Headlines in the background. It can sometimes get crowded, but if you come at the right time, it's possible to enjoy the beach to yourself. It's a peaceful place to hang out or have a picnic. There are often many dogs that run up and down the beach and into the water, which is great to watch.
Palace of Fine Arts
The Palace of Fine Arts is a museum that's located close to the water near Fort Mason. It has incredible architecture with a huge dome as the centerpiece. The museum is hugged by a small peaceful lake to sit by. Even though it costs money to go inside and see the art, its a beautiful trip to walk around the dome and by the lake. Its also walking distance from Crissy Fields.
Its beautiful in the daytime, but truly mesmerizing in the nighttime. The lights shine on the dome to give it an angelic effect, and sitting under the dome by the water brings a wonderful sense of serenity.
Lands End
Lands End is one of my favorite places in San Francisco. A large plot of forest and trails by the coast, I love the space and atmosphere it gives me from within the city. Already going to the parking lot is a great view of the ocean and land formations, but as you continue up north you'll find more interesting coast lines and the Golden Gate Bridge will come into view. Its not a difficult hike (more of a walk) and its an easy way to take your mind off things for a little bit. On a clear day you can see all the way out to the Golden Gate Bridge, and watch cargo ships pass under along the coastline. There are also small pockets of beaches which tend to be enclosed by cliffs.
If you continue walking for an hour or so, you can walk through Baker's Beach to Marshall's beach. From here you'll see the Golden Gate Bridge towering above you really close, and there will be people sunbathing and relaxing on the sand. If you continue north there are cool rocks that you can climb out into the sea, and watch the waves crash right below you.
